Katiebo Cover Girl – EMILY ANDERSON

26 Sep

Our latest Katiebo Cover Girl is a little later than we would have liked due to some unforeseen technical difficulties … but better late than never!!  This week we would like to introduce you to the beautiful Emily Anderson.  Emily is 19 years old and lives in the Northern red dirt town of Newman where she works as an Administrator for BHP Billiton.

Meet Emily!

Here’s a few random facts about the gorgeous Emily:

  • I have 4 sisters who are all younger than me.
  • I have lived in Newman for just over 3 and half years … before that i lived in Perth.
  • I completed the last two years of high school in Newman, where a graduated.
  • I have a boyfriend who i have been with for almost two years now.
  • I do not have any children.

So let’s have a chat with Emily about all this fashion, style and accessories!

How would you describe your signature style?
I don’t really have a signature style, however I do dress to however I feel on the day. (Ii dress to my mood).

What does BLING mean to you?
BLING to me, means showing off your best self and your own personal style in a way that helps you express yourself.

How do you make your day SPARKLE? (this doesn’t have to be jewellery … can be anything … things you wear, eat, do , say, write … whatever!)
I sparkle my day by always having my white gold necklace on, my white gold earrings and a few spritz of Britney Spears Perfume.

Gold or silver?
I am a white gold girl, however if i had to choose between gold and silver I would choose silver.

Earrings or necklaces?
I like both earrings and necklaces everyday but if i had to choose it would be necklaces as they are always seen to reflect onto your face.

Tell me about your favourite accessories purchase … it can be anything … was it a steal or a splurge?
My favourite accessories purchase was a small perfume which was in a stainless silver canister. It was the kind of perfume that you wipe on your finger then wipe on your neck and wrist. I liked it because it was in a beautiful canister, it had a black ribbon to hang it from your wrist or bag. It smelt amazing and it was only $7.99. It was definitely a steal!

What is your favourite accessory in your accessories wardrobe?
My favourite accessory is my big flower ring! It is a creamy yellow flower with the petals all surrounded by diamontes. I love it – it makes a statement.

What is something you would like to do more of in relation to “accessorising” your looks?
I would like to be able to branch out a bit more – which i have been trying to do lately – just so that I can try different things and make myself look my best.

Diamonds or pearls?
Diamonds – because they are a girl’s best friend. However, I definitely love it when diamonds and pearls are put together.

Finish this sentence by Madonna … “We don’t need diamond rings or 18 carat gold” …“We don’t need diamond rings or 18 carat gold, Fancy cars that go very fast, well they never last, no no … What you need is a big strong man, to take you to your higher ground”

Thanks for your time Emily … :-)

Katiebo Cover Girl – NIKKI PARKINSON

14 Sep

This week I have the pleasure of introducing you to the fabulous Nikki Parkinson … some of you will know Nikki from her fantastic blog, Styling You.  If you haven’t already visited Styling You, then make sure you check it out, it’s your online passport for looking and feeling your best every single day!  For those of you that don’t know Nikki, here is a little introduction …

Meet Nikki Parkinson

I’ve long spent a disproportionate amount of my income on clothes and beauty products. I blame my politically correct mother who never let me have a Barbie doll (cue violin music here). Instead of Glamour Barbie, I unwrapped trucks and Meccano sets at Christmas time. I’m sorry, mum, but neither of those toys came with accessories.

Fast-forward way too many years later and I’m working as a journalist on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. I volunteer to do the fashion section of the newspaper in my spare time, then manage to make it part of my job description (clever move) and end up putting my hand up to edit the papers then Saturday magazine. I coordinated shoots, styled a few models and realised that maybe, just maybe, I could dress real people for a living.

Tha’ts when Styling You was born. In 2008, I said goodbye to journalism after 20 years, set up an office in the corner of my lounge room, and started blogging in between sorting through people’s wardrobes and taking them shopping. Yes, sorry again mum, I get to play Barbies every single day. Dream life, huh?

Oh, and I have two teenage kids and a five-year-old. Yes, life is busy!

So let’s find out about Nikki’s style …

How would you describe your signature style?
Classic with an edge.  I’m not a feminine, vintage kind of girl.  I love black and block colours and I like garments that offer something a little bit different.

Looking gorgeous xx

What does BLING mean to you?
The opportunity to individualise my outfit; to re-invent a favourite outfit with a twist.

How do you make your day SPARKLE?
I wake up each morning with a huge does of gratitude … for my family, my home and the ability to run my own business.  Each day I aim to wear an outfit that makes me feel my most confident and one that suits whatever the day dishes out.  Accessories are very much a part of that.  I always add at least one piece as a conversation starter.

Gold or silver? I swing both ways!

Earrings or necklaces? It depends on the outfit and the mood.  I have a good supply of both.

Tell me about your favourite accessories purchase … it can be anything … was it a steal or a splurge? It was definitely a splurge.  It’s a statement necklace by Sunshine Coast designer Salita Matthews – her work has been featured in Harpers Bazaar, In Style and Marie Claire.  She’s one to watch.

Looking Glam in Salita Matthews ...

What is your favourite accessory in your accessories wardrobe?
Oh, that’s a tough one.  I’d have to say my Jaime Mascaro suede boots I bought last winter.  I feel amazing every time I wear them.

What is something you would like to do more of in relation to “accessorising” your looks?
I think I’ve got accessorising down pat for my clients who struggle to give their outfit a lift, I ask them to stop and think each morning: “what’s the one thing I can add to my outfit?”  When they think only about one thing, it becomes less of a challenge and they start the habit of daily accessorising.

Diamonds or pearls? Pearls

Finish this sentence by Madonna in your own words … “We don’t need diamond rings or 18 carat gold” … no we don’t because when you have access to gorgeous bling by Katiebo, you have the tools to create outfits that sing.

Thank you for sharing Nikki :-)    Love your work xx

Katiebo Cover Girl – MELLITA BACICH

7 Sep

Well … it’s time for another “Katiebo Cover Girl” here at Sparkle Central … and this week I would like to introduce you to the gorgeous Mellita Bacich.

Mellita is a 26 year chica who lives in the small beach town of Binningup with her lovely boyfriend Rob.  The ultimate GLAM girl … like all of us … Mellita is waiting for her partner to build her a bigger wardrobe ;-)

The Gorgeous Mellita!

When I asked Mellita about her lifestyle she told me … “I work on a mine site in Collie as a Senior Site Administrator and yes … I have to dress in the ridiculous clothes, so there isn’t much bling time during the week for me.  I love going out with friends, or even just kicking back with a bottle of champas and watching the sun go down.  I consider myself a pretty outgoing person, I love being active and meeting new people.  I have gorgeous family who would do anything to help me out, I really appreciate them all and love them to bits”.

So let’s find out more about Melta’s style …

How would you describe your signature style?
What can I say, I’m a girl who is defiantly addicted fashion, whether it be shoes, clothes, accessories I love them all.  I think my day time signature style is trendy, but layed back, but when the night falls its definitely all class with a hint of bling :-)

What does BLING mean to you?
BLING means always heading out dressed in your favourite pieces of jewellery. There is always one for every different outfit.

Looking cool ... as always!

How do you make your day SPARKLE?
Well its quite hard to feel any sparkle when I wake up at 5.00am each morning to go to work on a mine site. To make things worse I have to dress in men’s clothing. To make myself feel good and the slightest bit feminine I always make sure I have my favourite pieces of jewellery on, earrings in and my hair is always done neatly with the added touch of a headband or scarf. This is how i make my day sparkle :-)

Gold or silver?
Well im loving silver at the moment, but I did go through a gold stage.

Mellita & Rob all GLAMMED up for a wedding ...

Earrings or necklaces? Oooh such a hard decision, can I say both

Tell me about your favourite accessories purchase … it can be anything … was it a steal or a splurge?
My latest and favourite accessory purchase is my tailored black jacked … it can be worn with almost anything and is a What is your favourite accessory in your accessories wardrobe?
Would probably be my  “Love Charm” necklace, it goes with everything.

What is something you would like to do more of in relation to “accessorising” your looks?
Definitely build a bigger wardrobe!!!

Melta's Dream Closet

Diamonds or pearls?
Another hard question, I love Pearls but I’m still waiting for the big diamond … ;-) so I’m going to have to go with both again!

Finish this sentence by Madonna in your own words … “We don’t need diamond rings or 18 carat gold” … we just need great family and fabulous friends that you can always rely on, these are the most important things in the world!!! That and some awesome awesome bling to get around in ;-)

Thanks so much Mellita … can’t wait to see your new black jacket in action … he he might have to steal that one!   If you’d like to be our next “Katiebo Cover Girl” email me now … bling@katiebo.com.au … I’d love to hear from you!  Plus, you’ll have a 1 in 4 chance at winning a $50 Katiebo Jewellery & Accessories Voucher!

Katiebo Cover Girl – SHARNI MONTGOMERY

1 Sep

Welcome to our brand new “segment” KATIEBO COVER GIRLS!  I’m so excited to introduce you to our very first Cover Girl … the gorgeous Sharni Montgomery.

Sharni is ex Corporate city chick who once would not think twice about splurging entire pay packets on clothing and accessories (and living on toast and water as a result) who now lives in Hay in rural NSW with her Cowboy and her twenty month old son Monte.

Sharni has been a stay at home Mum  while writing her fabulous blog Sharnanigans (which is how I was introduced to her) and staying in touch with the world online.   When I asked Sharni about her style … she told me “my style has taken a bit of a backseat of late but recently I put together a Sex and the Country photoshoot and it gave me a taste of the glamour and style I had been yearning for! I am finding it challenging to mix style and glamour with comfort though I am getting there!” … Let’s find out more about Sharni’s Style!

How would you describe your signature style?
Black! and dangly earrings . I do have a soft spot for black as i realised while hanging out my washing the other day. But I like to fancy it up so I do not look gothic – if i am going out for example I might add bright shoes or  giant earrings!

What does BLING mean to you?
Makes me think of Hip-Hop types oh and Katiebo!

How do you make your day SPARKLE?
I make my day sparkle when I feel in control, when i get my housework and boring stuff done and then get to enjoy the moment – music, nice food and a good laugh makes my day sparkle.

Gold or silver? Silver

Earrings or necklaces? Ooh tough gig, but earrings wins by an ear.

Tell me about your favourite accessories purchase … it can be anything … was it a steal or a splurge? Honestly, I do love the “Back in Black” earrings from you [Katiebo] and colourful scarves bought in North Vietnam for a steal.

Sharni's Fave Earrings ... LOVE xx

What is your favourite accessory in your accessories wardrobe?
My accessories wardrobe? ha – well I am a fan of scarves I could do with restocking my accessories wardrobe however… I have a gorgeous warm black and white scarf with pom pom like features -  I bought locally from a shop call Hayven – it’s a little kooky aswell as warm. I have my eyes on a future accessory which are a pair of earrings on Etsy that are teapots – I love a cup of tea and these earrings are calling my name.

Looking GLAM with a gorgeous scarf!

What is something you would like to do more of in relation to “accessorising” your looks?
I would like to have more jewellry and scarves, scarves and something to mix my hair up a bit without looking like a little kid, y’know?

Diamonds or pearls?
Pearls

Finish this sentence by Madonna … “We don’t need diamond rings or 18 carat gold” … fancy cars that go very fast you know they never last no, no ….

Thanks so much Sharni … love your work!   If you’d like to be our next “Katiebo Cover Girl” email me now … bling@katiebo.com.au … I’d love to hear from you!

More to “Bling” Than Meets The Eye?

5 Aug BLINGHEADERBLOG

Seeing as bling is such a huge part of my life … I’ve been thinking about what it actually means … where did the term come from?  Why do we use it in our everyday vernacular?  What does it mean to you?  Now you may think I need to find a hobby, however I love finding out the history behind language, why we say the things we do … and whether the same work means the same thing to everybody.

The Urban Dictionary provides the following definition … synonym for expensive, often flashy jewelry sported mostly by African American hip-hop artists and middle class Caucasian adolescents. v. to “bling-bling;” the act of sporting jewelry of a highly extravagant gaudy nature.

According to The Urban Dictionary (ho hum, whatever happened to the good old Macquarie?) Lil Wayne can be credited with coining the phrase “bling-bling” …  in order to describe the imaginary sound of a sparkling Diamond.
The song “Bling Bling” can be found in the album “Chopper City in the Ghetto” released in 1999 by B.G. featuring cashmoney members including Lil wayne who sings the chorus “Bling Bling”. Since then, this phrase has been popular in the hip-hop culture.

And so this got me thinking … what does bling mean to me?  It’s a term I use multiple times a day, both in business life and in my personal life.  This is what I came up with:

Bling is something sparkly and fabulous … the perfect ring to create a knockout outfit, that awesome pair of earrings that stop traffic (no really, I’ve been told they do), my watch with it’s sparkly face.  But it’s also more than that.  I’ve “blinged” up my Iphone with a hot pink silicone case.  My keyring features a pink, diamante studded “K”.

While many dictionary meanings stated “bling” to be ostentatious, gaudy and expensive … to me, bling doesn’t have to be any of these things, especially not expensive!

To me, bling is also a way of thinking … I try not to do the “negative” and only concentrate on the positive things in my life … and so the sparkly and fabulous can be so much more than just jewellery and accessories … I’m forever telling people to have a “super sparkly day” and signing my emails, bling bling.

And so, I would love to know, what does “BLING” mean to you?

Bling it on,
Katiebo xx
